Knowledge is Gestaltung (design) and Gestaltung produces knowledge. However, the fact that that design actively shapes our perception of the world has been mostly overlooked so far: images, models and tools are consciously formed, but they also shape the knowledge they produce.
The exhibition +ultra. knowledge & gestaltung reveals the fundamental role processes of design play in the sciences and humanities. From the hand axe to the digitally monitored organ, from active matter to image-guided actions – the exhibition deals with the increasing interdependence of the human and technological spheres and what challenges arise from this development.
The displays analyze the current mergence of the digital and the analog, as we are steering towards a completely new material culture. Spotlights on historical continuities as well as on profound transformations in the relationship between nature and culture sharpen our awareness for present developments.
