Sophia Kunze was a research assistant on the project »Gender & Gestaltung« and investigates discursive practices that influence the formation of normative knowledge. Using the example of bearded women in modern and recent times, she researches the types of discourse in respective periods, regions and contexts that provide an evaluation of the selected picture sources and the general picture object. Beside the question of normative basic assumptions in the representation of gender, she focuses on the examination of pathologisation processes on the basis of alleged natural scientific and especially medical insights.
Sophia Kunze studied History and History of Art in Hamburg. After her degree in 2012 she worked for the Digitalisation Project of the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe (KG – Museum for Art and Industry) Hamburg.
