Roles
Interdisciplinary Laboratory
Oliver Thie draws in order to make the visible perceptible. In 2012, he obtained his diploma from the Berlin Weissensee Academy of Art, for which he examined phenomena that occur when observing movements. Since then he has researched the relevance of hand drawings as a knowledge tool in collaborative projects with scientists. He employs hand drawings as a visual form of expression that enables interdisciplinary exchanges. From 2014 to 2016, he explored microstructures on Hawaiian cave plant hoppers Oliarus polyphemus in a public drawing laboratory at the Berlin Museum für Naturkunde. In 2016, he accompanied a biological expedition across the USA and studied the social behaviour of aphids.

In the »Mobile Objects« project, he will analyse objects in scientific collections and share drawing-based research methods in workshops.
