Since 2005, art historian Matthias Bruhn has been working as a research associate at the Department of Art and Visual History at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and head of the research group »The Technical Image«, which uses primarily art historical methods to investigate the form and history of applied imaging in the natural sciences, technology and medicine and was also funded as a DFG (German Research Foundation) long-term project from 2005 to 2012. Previously, he had been head of the »Research Centre for Political Iconography« at the Warburg-Haus in Hamburg, a research center for political iconography affiliated with the University of Hamburg. He is the co-founder and a member of the advisory board of »ArtHist. Network for art history in the H-Net« and together with Claudia Blümle and Horst Bredekamp editor of the series »Bildwelten des Wissens«. During the academic year 2016/17 he represented the professorship for art research at Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design.
