Jan Wölfer obtained his bachelor’s degree in biology at the Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg and the Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena. During his master’s programme he focused his studies on evolution, ecology and animal classification, particularly on functional morphology of the musculoskeletal system of vertebrates. 

Since late 2014 he has been working as a research associate in the research group »Morphologie und Formengeschichte« with John Nyakatura and is preparing his dissertation topic in the field.
