Eli Amson graduated his Bachelor’s degree (Geology) and Master’s degree (Evolutionary biology) between the Univeristé Pierre et Marie Curie and the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle (both in Paris, France). He defended his PhD, which concerned the anatomy of extinct sloths, in September 2014. He then performed a first postdoctoral project during 2015 between the Paläontologisches Institut und Museum and Universität Zürich and the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) about bone histology and evolution of American mammals.

Eli Amson integrated the team of the Clusterprofessur John Nyakatura as an Humboldtian fellow (Alexander von Humboldt Foundation). They will study the functional anatomy of the mammalian skeleton in relation to stance and locomotion, focusing on models with unique adaptations such as sloths, armadillos, and anteaters.
