Christian Vogel studied Recent History and Empirical Culture Studies at the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen. In 2005 he was awarded a degree, with a thesis on the history of radiology in obstetrics (»Soziotechnische Systeme. Eine Akteur-Netzwerk Studie zu Schwangerschaft und Geburt im Röntgenbild, 1896–1930«). Subsequently he worked as a research assistant. From 2010 to 2013, he held a scholarship awarded by the Cusanuswerk (the scholarship body of the Catholic Church in Germany). In 2011 he was a visiting researcher at the Chair for Science Studies at ETH Zürich. Since August 2011, he has been an associate staff member at the Chair of the History of Science at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Since 2009 Christian Vogel has been working on his Ph.D. on X-Ray exhibitions  and the history of medical radiology, 1900–1935.
